Thank a Driver! It’s National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

By Tosha Missel, PacLease Marketing Specialist

This year’s National Truck Driver Appreciation Week has been announced for September 12-18, 2021.

Through all of the challenges in recent years, truck drivers have showed up and delivered and it has not gone unnoticed. PacLease would like to thank the 3.6 million men and women drivers who have kept America moving forward through hard work and dedication.

It is no surprise that truck drivers make nearly every aspect of daily life possible transporting goods and resources we use every day from food, vital medical supplies, household goods, and many other items we depend on each day. These “heroes of the highway” move on average 11.84 billion tons of freight representing roughly 72.5% of the nation’s freight according to the American Trucking Association. This September, make sure to thank a trucker.

Here are some ideas to show your appreciation while sharing the highway:

  1. In heavy traffic keep in mind large trucks need more room to merge. If you have the opportunity, give a truck driver ample room to merge safely. The smallest gesture can go a long way.
  1. When driving on the highway, make sure you give trucks adequate space. The stopping time and distance for a truck is much greater than a small vehicle. On average, a fully loaded truck needs nearly two football fields to stop in ideal weather conditions. By suddenly cutting off a truck, you’re reducing their safe stopping distance.
  2. Be mindful of truck blind spots and pass with care.  Help everyone reach their destination and return home safely.
